Bruno Collaert
- Graduated in 1987 in dentistry from KULeuven.
- Subsequently studied periodontology at Lund Universitet in the Swedish city of Malmö. In 1990, he became a Master of Dental Science in the field of Periodontology (MSc).
- Awarded his doctorate in 1992 (Odont. Dr.) after presenting a thesis on supragingival biofilm control.
- Became a lecturer in 1995 (Associate Professor in the field of Periodontology) at the Centre for Oral Health Sciences, Malmö University.
- Has worked since 1992 as a periodontologist, first in Brussels (until 2004) and then as the initiator of the Periodontology and Implantology Centre in Leuven.
- Member of the Belgian Association of Periodontology, European Federation of Periodontology, American Academy of Periodontology, Academy of Osseointegration and European Association of Osseointegration.
- Chairman of the Dutch-language chamber of the Periodontology Accreditation Commission at FPS Public Health (2009-2015).
- As a tutor, he has overseen the training of periodontologists at KULeuven and UGent since 2007. As co-tutor, he supports master’s students in dentistry and logopaedic sciences.
- His research activities focus on supragingival plaque control, dentine sensitivity, mouthwashes, patient opinions after implant treatment, use of antibiotics, patient response to aftercare, smoking and implant failure, fast and immediate implant loading, the long-term monitoring of implants, the origin and resolution of speech disorders following prosthetic repair, the use of 3D cone beam CT technology, etc. He conducts this research in association with universities in Leuven, Ghent, Copenhagen, Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm.
